Owner requested euthanasia

As a pet guardian, you may face the tough decision to euthanize a pet due to serious illness, injury, or a significant decline in their quality of life. Behavioral euthanasia may be appropriate for the mental wellbeing of the animal or community safety. In these cases, humane euthanasia may be the kindest option to relieve their suffering. HSPPR encourages you to consult with your veterinarian for guidance in making this end-of-life decision.

HSPPR offers humane euthanasia and cremation services for domestic pets. However, we are unable to allow owners to stay with their pet during the procedure. If you’d like to be with your pet, please contact your veterinarian. For mobile vet or at-home euthanasia services, click here.

HSPPR’s compassionate, certified technicians perform humane euthanasia using a drug injection, as recommended by the American Veterinary Medical Association. Your pet will be treated with dignity and respect, and cremation services are provided through our partnership with Lasting Paws Pet Memorial Services.

We are not able to perform euthanasia services for large companion animals/livestock such as goats, pigs, or horses.

Colorado Springs Location

Appointments are encouraged to ensure you receive timely care during this difficult time. If your pet requires emergency euthanasia, you may bring them to the shelter before your appointment. We are open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Pueblo Location

Euthanasia services at our Pueblo shelter are available on a walk-in basis, no appointment needed. We are open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
