Community Animal Response Team (CART)

There in a time of need

It’s not if, but when. The animals in our community are counting on us to be prepared for the worst-case scenario. Because we’re experts in animal welfare, Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region is the official designated agency to provide animal response when disaster strikes in the communities we serve – whether fire, flooding, hoarding situations, or other natural or manmade disasters.

Our CART volunteers are trained to perform companion animal and livestock sheltering operations during emergency situations and disasters, including animal care and handling, health, documenting animal intake, and reuniting animals with their owners.

Requirements for joining CART

CART members are expected to attend monthly meetings, participate in required ongoing training, and take part in annual exercises to remain prepared for deployment. We strongly recommend all members gain first-hand experience in animal care and handling by volunteering at a local animal shelter, equestrian center, or boarding facility.
