City of Colorado Springs
City of Colorado Springs 6.7.106 (F)-
up to 4 adult dogs and 4 adult cats
Unincorporated El Paso County

up to 4 adult dogs or cats, or any combination, except in properly zoned areas; for further zoning information, contact 719.520.6300.

Adult animal is defined as any dog or cat over the age of 4 months. There may be exceptions to the number and type of animals you can legally own (such as pot belly pigs, fowl (chickens, ducks, etc.), or certain hoofed animals. These exceptions will vary by jurisdiction. Please consult your city or county code and contact your local code enforcement/zoning department for more information.
Impounded animals
Animals impounded in El Paso County are transported and cared for at Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region’s Colorado Springs campus. You can find location and contact information at the bottom of this page. Pets may be reclaimed during normal Lost & Found hours. Just follow the signs for Admissions when you arrive.
If you are reclaiming a pet, please be sure to bring:
Driver's license or ID with your current address
If your address is not current, you will need to bring a document with your name and current address, such as a utility or phone bill.
Proof of ownership
Which may include veterinary records, a photograph, registration information, adoption paperwork, or other proof you are the legal owner of the animal.
Proof of a current rabies vaccination and pet license
Contact your veterinarian if you need copies of your vaccination history.
Payment
Cash, Visa, or MasterCard (checks are not accepted)
We work hard to ensure the health and safety of your pet while at our facility, even if it’s just for a short time. We do charge boarding fees on a per day to help cover the cost of caring for your pet during their stay. If your pet receives necessary medical care from our veterinary team, the total due may increase. By law, other fees associated with ensuring your pet meets rabies vaccination and licensing regulations may be required. Our customer service team will walk you through a description of these charges.
